Energizeher Gida-Gida

OVERVIEW:

In 2024, we had the privilege of documenting a transformative initiative by the Kano state government aimed at eradicating energy poverty and empowering women in the region. The project, titled Energizeher Gida-Gida, focuses on equipping 200 young female energy champions with essential skills and training in sustainable energy solutions. This pioneering program is a cornerstone of Kano’s energy transition plan, designed to foster a new generation of skilled professionals dedicated to advancing clean energy technologies.

OBJECTIVE:

The Energizeher Gida-Gida project addresses the critical issue of energy poverty by providing practical, hands-on training in three key areas:
1.  Solar Design and Installation: Training participants in the installation and maintenance of solar energy systems, enabling them to bring reliable, renewable energy to underserved communities.
2. Clean Cook Stove Development: Equipping them with the knowledge to develop and promote clean cook stoves, which reduce indoor air pollution and improve health outcomes.
3. Biogas Production: Teaching the fundamentals of biogas technology to help convert organic waste into valuable energy, contributing to waste management and sustainable energy production.

OUR ROLE:

Our team was deeply involved in capturing the essence of this groundbreaking initiative. Through our documentary shoot, we aimed to highlight the stories of the young female champions and their journey as they acquire new skills and contribute to a significant shift in the state’s energy landscape. From intimate interviews to dynamic training sessions and community interactions, our coverage brings to life the impact of this program on both the participants and the wider community.

OUTCOME:

The Energizeher Gida-Gida project not only empowers women but also sets a precedent for sustainable energy solutions in Kano. By showcasing this initiative, our documentary aims to inspire and inform stakeholders, highlight the successes of the program, and advocate for further support in the fight against energy poverty.
